First day washed out

KATHMANDU: The heavy downpour at The Wanderers Stadium in Windhoek washed out the opening day of the four-day ICC Inter-continental Cup match between Nepal and Namibia on

Thursday. According to secretary of Cricket Association of Nepal Laxman Bastola, umpires made a last inspection of the ground at 8:25pm NST and decided to put off the first day match. “The 30-yard circle was too wet to start the play,” Bastola said. Nepal is in a must-win situation to qualify for the ICC Inter-Continental Cup. — HNS

Adventure Cycling Rally

KATHMANDU: Nepal Cycling Club is organising the third Kathmandu Adventure Rally here on Saturday. The event has been divided into two sections — LIAISON (transportation course) and Special Stage (test course) — and the riders will have to follow the route map in given time, said the organisers at a press meet. The top three winners will get Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 respectively. The race will start from Nepal Tourism Board and end at NCC office in Thamel. — HNS

KATHMANDU: Sindhu-XI Sports Club of Sindhupalchowk is building a model football stadium at the banks of Bhotekoshi river in Srichaur, Phulpingkatti. “About 75 per cent of the project has been completed,” said vice-president of the club Surya Khadka, who credited the succcess of the project to the assistance of the local enterpreneurs.

“The project was undertaken a year earlier with the initiation of the club. Of the total estimated budget of Rs 2.6 million, Rs 1.1 million have already been spent,” he said. Khadka said that All Nepal Football Association, Bhote Koshi Power Project and Sindhupalhowk chamber of commerce among others have assured to provide assistance to build the stadium, which is being constructed in about100 ropanis land. — HNS

Saraswoti a win away

Kathmandu: United Youth Club defeated Tusal Youth Club 5-3 while Sano Gaucharan Youth Club and Kathmandu Club played a goalless draw in the Martyrs’ Memorial ‘B’ Division League here at Dasharath Stadium today. Karna Subba and Binay Maharjan scored two goals each and Prem Kumar Subba one for United. Suraj Gurung struck twice and Ashok Pun scored one for Tusal.

After the sixth round, Saraswoti leads the standings with 16 points and looks closer to clinch ‘A’ Division berth. Saraswoti needs a win to climb into the premier division. Star Club is second with 12 points and United third with 11. — HNS

JYC bid farewell to Jude

LALITPUR: Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) bade farewell to its foreign player Jude Onyewuenyi on Thursday. JYC president Sunil Shrestha presented Jude with a club jersey and gift hampers. “Jude, as a foreign player, has suceeded to leave a mark not only for the club but also in the national league,” Shrestha said. Speaking on the occasion, Jude said that he felt honoured playing for JYC. JYC manager Kamal Singh and coach Megh Raj KC was also present on the occasion. — HNS
