Kathmandu, November 4 Activists of ‘Justice for Nirmala’ and ‘Rage Against Rape’ campaigns today formally handed over DNA samples collected yesterday to Kathmandu District Administration Office. Scores of activists yesterday had collected DNA samples in a symbolic protest to pressure the government to bring the culprit(s) of the rape and murder of Nirmala to justice. Nirmala, a 13-year old girl of Kanchanpur, was raped and murdered on July 26. Activists also registered a letter at the DAO which stated that the collection of DNA samples by  police appeared to be just a farce. “We have strong doubts over the procedure undertaken by police to cross check the DNA of the accused with the DNA sample of Nirmala.” The letter also stated that police should not rely only on DNA test to find out the culprits. Activist Chyaban Ghimire satirically said, “We have also said also through the letter that we will collect DNA sampes of all males in Kanchanpur district  if police fail to find out the culprit(s).The activists are raising questions over the genuineness of DNA sample of Nirmala.
