KATHMANDU: Police have arrested a foreign national and a Nepali woman from Kathmandu for conning people using various social networking sites.

A team of police deployed by the Metropolitan Crime Division, Kathmandu has arrested Ivory Coast's Obotar Alkagni and Kusum Kayastha from Kavrepalanchok, who are currently staying in Pepsicola in Kathmandu and were found to be cheating people using Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber and Imo among other social networking sites.

The arrested are a married couple who were found to be using Indian mobile number and conning people by luring them in the name of parcel-delivery and lottery. They were found to have amassed more than Rs 1.4 million.

According to police investigation, the couple was arrested from their rented apartment in Pepsi Cola. It has been learnt that they have duped as many as eight people so far. The couple used to make calls to people and ask them to deposit a certain amount in various bank accounts of Kathmandu in the pretext of delivering parcels to them.

Police have lodged a criminal case against them and have launched further investigation into the case.

Police have also urged one and all to notify them if they have received any such dubious calls or texts luring them of parcel or prizes.
