KATHMANDU: The Pepsicola-Sallaghari road project has recorded a meagre physical progress, just 10 per cent, in nearly two years since the agreement on the project.

According to Kathmandu Valley Road Improvement Project, the project's progress has been minimal as physical infrastructures along the road (which need to be cleared to implement the project) are yet to be removed.

According to project engineer Bishwa Bijay Lal Shrestha, several infrastructures including private houses at Bahakha Bazaar need to be demolished to implement the project from Bahakha Bazaar to Sallaghari.

Locals are demanding compensation for their houses and land, however, the authority concerned has not yet guaranteed the compensation for land as being covered by the road widening project.

Despite efforts from local representatives to pave way for the project implementation, it has not been possible as the locals are demanding for compensation collectively.

The contract agreement for the 4.5-kilometre road was made in June-July 2017. The agreement term is ending next year. Though the Kathmandu Valley project started 11 road improvement projects -- five each in Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts, and one in Bhaktapur -- the progress is limited.
