Kathmandu, February 25 Traffic police took action against 171 vehicle drivers for defying the no-horn rule in Kathmandu yesterday. Traffic police have intensified action against vehicles violating the no-horn rule in Kathmandu. Metropolitan Traffic Police Division had booked 75 unruly motorists a few days ago. Traffic police had recently renewed warning against unnecessary honking in Kathmandu valley. Authorities had imposed a ban on needless honking in the valley with effect from 14 April 2017. The rule was introduced in accordance with Section 164 (c) of the Motor Vehicle and Transport Management Act, 1993. The ban, however, was being violated by vehicle drivers for the last few months, according to traffic police personnel. Senior Superintendent of Police Basant Panta at MTPD said the no-horn rule was introduced in a bid to control urban noise pollution. The MTPD has also claimed it took action against 30,468 vehicles for breaching the rule. The ban is applicable to all public and private vehicles, except emergency vehicles such as ambulances, fire engines.
