Valley remained partially shut on the first day of the three-day general strike called by the CPN-Maoist, today. Few private vehicles plied in the city areas while some public vehicles provided services to the people. The Sajha and trolley buses were seen ferrying a large number of passengers. Similarly, tourist vehicles also carried tourists to and fro the airport.

Shops, factories and educational institutions in the main parts of the city remained closed and a few number of small shops in the inner parts of the town were open. Most of the private conveyances and motorcycles seen on the roads had their number plates covered, fearing untoward actions by the strike callers in the future. Similarly, the bandh had a general impact in Lalitpur district. The Sajha Yatayat buses, private vehicles and other vehicles with their number plates covered, were partially seen on the roads. No untoward incidents occurred during the bandh in the district, according to security sources.

Meanwhile, the bomb exploded by the Maoists in the premises of the Lalitpur Sub-etropolitan City office building yesterday did not cause any damage. Likewise, the main market centres, industries and businesses, educational institutions and transport services remained closed due to the bandh in Bhaktapur district. Assistant CDO of Bhaktapur informed that the bandh passed away peacefully in the district.
