Patient dies in ambulance-van collision

BHARATPUR: A patient was killed when an ambulance collided with a van in Narayangadh of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-3 along the East-West Highway. Two others were injured.

Santa Man Shrestha (55) of Palungtar Municipality-1 in Gorkha district breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital, informed District Police Office, Chitwan. Shrestha was suffering from hypertension.

The incident occurred when the ambulance (Ga 2 Cha 4600) en route from Gorkha to Bharatpur collided with the van (Na 1 Ja 7773) at Shahidchok in Narayangadh, on Tuesday night.

Shrestha's body has been kept at the hospital for postmortem.

The injured -- patient's attendant Udaya Prasad Shrestha (65) also of Palungtar and van driver Prabin Kumar Shrestha (19) of Shyamghat-6 in Tanahun district -- are receiving treatment at the hospital.

Over-speeding by the ambulance has been determined as the cause of the accident. Police have detained the ambulance driver for further investigation.
