KATHMANDU, MAY 20

Minister for Communications and Information Technology Dr Bikram Timilsina has said the government has no intention of curtailing press freedom and remains committed to protecting constitutional rights related to the media.

Responding to lawmakers' queries in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Minister Timilsina said press freedom guaranteed by the constitution could not be restricted, while stressing the need for responsible journalism.

He said the media should maintain professional dignity and ethical boundaries, adding that the government would support a free and responsible press environment.

The minister also stated that the government was working to strengthen the Press Council Nepal and the Central Board of Film Censor.
