RAJBIRAJ: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Monday arrested a Non-Gazetted First-Class Officer (Nayab Subba) at Rajbiraj-based Land Reform and Revenue Office on the charge of taking bribe from a service seeker. A team deployed from CIAA regional office, Itahari, arrested Basudev Mandal red-handed from his office while he was taking the bribe of Rs 40,000 from a service seeker this morning. According to a source at CIAA, the team kept Mandal under surveillance after a service seeker lodged a complaint against the land revenue officer. Mandal had allegedly demanded the bribe for settling a dispute over land tenant case and called the service seeker to his office an hour before office time for the same. Mandal, a resident of Rajgadh Rural Municipality-4 in Saptari, was retiring in next two days after 58 years of his service, according to District Land Reform and Revenue Office. Meanwhile, Mandal has been sent to the CIAA regional office for further investigation into the graft case, a source at CIAA informed.
