Udayapur's municipality proposes establishment of medical college

GAIGHAT: Mayor of Katari Municipality in Udayapur district, Gyanendra Kumar Shrestha, has handed over a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli putting forth the demand to open a medical college in the municipality, on Monday. Mayor Shrestha submitted the memorandum to PM Oli at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar. The municipality has decided to provide land, to be used for the purpose, free of cost. The mayor was accompanied by province secretary of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) and member of parliament from Udayapur Constituency 2- Suresh Kumar Rai, along with representatives from other political parties of the region. Mayor Shrestha said, the proposal was supported by three municipalities including Katari and four rural municipalities of the district. He assured that the medical college would benefit Solukhumbu, Okhaldhunga, Khotang, Siraha, Saptari, Dhanusha, and Mahottari districts as well. Further plans include developing the town area into an industrial corridor and establishing an airport, said Deputy Mayor Bhim Kumari Raut. The resolution for establishment of the medical college in Katari Bazaar was passed at the municipal council of Katari Municipality on January 11.
