Dhangadi, April 29 Dhangadi sub-metropolis has launched a self-defence training camp for girls in the municipal areas of Kailali from today The sub-metropolis started the self-defence training following increasing incidents of rape and violence against women in the district.  As many as 800 women and girls from wards 14, 18 and 19 are participating in the training camp. The training will be run for four days at the playground of Phulbari Depobazaar. Earlier, more than 2,400 women and girls had participated in training organised by the Far-west Province’s Social Development Ministry, Dhangadi sub-metropolis and National Gojuriyo Karate Association in September-October. Mayor Nripa Bahadur Odd said, “We have been trying our best to curb incidents of violence and rape in the areas.” Odd added the training was organised with the aim of enabling women to defend themselves. Chair of National Gojuriyo Karate Association, Far-west Province, and the training instructor Prakash Chand said the training would boost women’s morale. “Women between 12 and 25 years of age have been participating in the training,” he said.
