RAUTAHAT: Police have arrested two alleged smugglers from different transit points along the Indo-Nepal border area, in Rautahat district, on Thursday. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at Rautahat District Police Office, Nabin Karki, the alleged smugglers -- Sheikh Nasir (40) of Rajpur Municipality-5 in the district and Mohamed Ishrail of Motihari district in Bihar State of India -- were apprehended while smuggling the livestock and other goods across the border. Acting on a tip-off, a police patrol team arrested Sheikh Nasir while he was smuggling forty cows to India via Banjaraha transit point in the wee hours today. Sheikh would have fetched Rs 0.48 million had he succeeded in smuggling the cattle to India, DSP Karki shared. According to police, smugglers normally bring cows from hilly areas to Rautahat and usually take advantage of the weekly haat-bazaar to smuggle these animals into India. Likewise, police also arrested Indian national Mohamed Ishrail while smuggling spare parts to Nepal from India via Lalbakiya river banks along the border area today. Both the smugglers along with the seized items have been sent to the Customs Office in Gaur for further investigation, DSP Karki said.
