Kathmandu, May 14 The Narcotics Control Bureau arrested a person from domestic terminal of Tribhuvan International Airport for possessing hashish today. A sniffer dog at the airport led police to seize 3.5 grams of the contraband from Raju Shrestha, 43, of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-3. During interrogation, Shrestha told the police that he had received hashish from Rewa Puri, 40, of Makawanpur. This information led the NCB to arrest Puri with 380 grams of hashish from Tilganga. Police said dogs were deployed at TIA to control trafficking, sales, distribution, storage and use of the contraband. TIA is becoming a transit point for transnational drug traffickers. Dogs are instructed to sniff around different passages and stations inside the airport. Remarkable achievements towards controlling the movement of illegal drugs have been made by the use of dogs. TIA alone accounts for around half of drug seizures in the country, mainly hashish and cocaine. According to police, sniffer dogs are working round-the-clock in both the international and regional airports for the security of passengers, as well as to control trafficking of illegal goods. Nepal Police has 78 dogs for the purpose of criminal investigation. “We have been deploying sniffer dogs to track drugs at the airport,” NCB said.
