KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) today observed the 26th Madan-Ashrit Memorial Day at Madan Nagar, Balkhu in the capital city. Today marks the day when late communist leaders Madan Bhandari and Jibaraj Ashrit lost their lives in a jeep accident 26 years ago. Today also marks the first anniversary of party unification between the then CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre. The programme was chaired by Prime Minister and NCP (NCP) Chair KP Sharma Oli along with former Prime Minister and party Co-Chair Puspa Kamal Dahal, wherein they addressed the members of the audience. Bhandari and Ashrit lost their lives on May 16, 1993 (Jestha 3, 2050) in a fatal jeep accident at Dasdhunga in Chitwan district. In memory of the late leaders and to honour them, the then CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Centre had announced their unification to become NCP (NCP), on this day, last year.
