Bara, May 25 The government’s decision to provide salary on a monthly basis to teachers of community schools has yet to be implemented in Bara. The government had decided to provide salary to public school teachers on a monthly basis through a secretary-level decision on 18 December 2016. The Department of Education under the Ministry of Education had sent a circular to Regional Education Directorate and District Education Office to provide monthly salary to community school teachers. However, District Education Office did not execute the circular. Neither have local levels abided by it. Head teacher Nandalal Sapkota of Ramjanaki Basic School located at Sakhu of Kalaiya Sub-metropolitan City, complained that the salary provided on a quarterly basis had made their life very hard. “We were happy to hear that we would get monthly salary. But, the decision is yet to come into effect,” Sapkota said. Likewise, head teacher Dipnedra Chaudhary of Jaitapur of Jitpur Simara sub-metropolis said the teachers were not provided salary on a monthly basis. “Due to the local levels’ failure to manage payment on a monthly basis, the government’s decision has been limited to paper,” he said. “The sub-metropolis is making preparations to release salary on a quarterly basis,” he added. Head teacher Laxman Bhattarai at Umjan-based Janata Secondary School Karaiyamai Rural Municipality said teachers at his school were being paid salary on a quarterly basis. “We have urged the local level to pay salary on a monthly basis as quarterly payment of salary has made it hard for teaches to run their families” he lamented. It is learnt that all community teachers under 16 local levels are not paid salary on a monthly basis, in Bara. Teachers’ Organisation Bara Chair Anil Kumar Mainali said the local levels didn’t bother to implement the government’s circular. Local level chiefs, however, cited the lack of staffers behind the non-implementation of the government’s decision. Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City Municipality Mayor Krishna Poudel said local levels could not sanction teachers’ salary on a monthly basis owing to shortage of employees. Education department at the sub-metropolis has just one officer. “We have failed to release teachers’ salary for want of staffers,” Poudel said.
