KATHMANDU: National Day of Women Rights is being marked across the nation today by organising various programmes. The Government of Nepal has decided to observe Jestha 16 of the Nepali calendar as Women Rights Day from this year onwards. According to the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizen, this year will be marked as the year for campaign against gender-based violence. The Ministry has set the moto for the campaign as 'End of gender-based discrimination, goal of a prosperous Nepal'. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes on the occasion of National Women Rights Day in a tweet:

राष्ट्रिय महिला अधिकार दिवसका अवसरमा स्वदेश तथा विदेशमा रहनुहुने सम्पूर्ण नेपाली दिदीवहिनी तथा दाजुभाइहरुमा हार्दिक वधाई तथा शुभकामना व्यक्त गर्दछु । लैङ्गिक विभेदको अन्त्यः समृद्ध नेपालको गन्तब्यका रुपमा २०७६ लाई नतिजामुखी ‘लैङ्गिक हिंसा विरुद्धको अभियान वर्ष’ बनाऔं ।
