BAJURA: As many as 70 secondary level under-served students in Bajura district have been provided with scholarships as support towards their education. Out of them, 19 students are from Triveni Municipality. The support was provided to the children under a youth empowerment programme (BVLGARI), which has been implemented in three municipalities of Bajura district with coordination between PeaceWin Bajura and Save the Children. An amount of Rs 4,000 was provided per student as the first of three instalments this year. Including four schools of Triveni Municipality, the programme has been implemented in a total of 14 secondary schools in the district. Under the programme, financial support is given to those children who remain out of school or have less attendance solely due to lack of financial backing. Social mobiliser of the programme Tanka Singh shared that the financial support is being provided to students selecting them on the basis of a joint decision of the school management committee, parent-teacher association, school administration, and child club. The selected students then receive financial support in facilitation of New Vision Cooperative in Triveni Municipality. According to Nanda Lal Jaisi, principal of Parvati Secondary School, the rate of school drop-out has reduced with students receiving such support towards their education. The project has been providing Rs 10,000 per child annually since 2016 along with carrying out other activities to reduce student absenteeism.
