Shakya wins gold in Poomsae

Lalitpur, August 26 The 11th South Asian Games gold medallist Ayasha Shakya won gold medal in Poomsae category of the ninth Korean Ambassador National Open Taekwondo Championship here at the Nepal Taekwondo Academy today. Shakya, who also claimed silver medals in the 10th and 12th editions of the regional games apart from winning bronze in the Asian Games in Doha in 2006, switched to Poomsae after giving birth to her second child. Competing in the above-30 age category, the National Team player Shakya earned 7.3 points to finish first ahead of Mira Kafle (6.45) of Valley Division. The field was reduced to two after a player withdrew from the event. In men’s section, Sanjib Kumar Ojha, Jagdish Singh Pali and Suraj Shrestha, all from National Team, claimed top three spots respectively. Other gold medallists in senior Poomsae categories included Nelima Malla (U-53kg) of Banke, Susmita Moktan (U-57) of Koteshwor and Indira Basnet (U-62) of National Team. The National Team players dominated the senior Poomsae categories with Jit Bahadur Bote and Parbati Gurung winning gold medals in men and women sections respectively. In Kyorugi, Sagar Singh Thakuri (U-42kg), Sagar Magar (U-45) and Pujan Khadka (U-48) won gold, while Swostika Maharjan (U-40kg), Gita Kathayata (U- 46), and Najiya Hasan Siddique (U-49kg) claimed gold medals in girls’ category.
