Chitwan, October 20 Relatives and family members resorted to vandalising Chitwan Medical College after a woman died while undergoing a minor nose surgery at the hospital today. Asha Gyawali of Devchuli Municipality from Eastern Nawalparasi had died yesterday. Relatives and family members had vandalised the hospital saying Gyawali died due to doctor’s negligence. The deceased’s husband Tuk Narayan Gyawali said his wife was admitted to the hospital after a mass of flesh grew on her nose. According to him, doctors had told him that the operation was minor and it would be over in a few hours. Doctor Sovitjung Baral had performed surgery on Gyawali. “The doctor had been telling us that Asha had developed problem in her kidney, eyes and other body parts due the impact of surgery,” Tuk Narayan shared. Agitating kin picketed the hospital and staged a demonstration throughout the day today. Police personnel used tear gas shells to disperse the demonstrators. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ek Narayan Koirala said police had to use force and tear gas shells to contain the mob after it turned violent. Police have arrested 12 people involved in acts of vandalism. Five police personnel and some agitators sustained minor injuries in the incident. Protesters also damaged some window panes of the hospital.
