Ramechhap, November 9 Stakeholders in Ramechhap have stressed the implementation of journalist code of conduct, citing how people’s representatives and others were suffering from irresponsible remarks and news written by vindictive journalists. The concerns were conveyed at an interaction on implementation of Professional Journalists Act-1994 and salary for journalists as recommended by the government. The interaction was organised by the government’s Minimum Salary Determination Committee and Communication Registrar office of Province 3, at District Coordination Committee office in Manthali today. Provincial Assembly member Shanti Prasad Poudel said, “Journalist did a commendable job to end monarchy in the country, but how they have been lately trying to tarnish the image of people’s representatives, by being biased against them, is unfortunate. Therefore we must implement a code of conduct to bring those pressmen who are in the wrong under the purview of action,” he argued. Manthali Municipality Mayor Ramesh Kumar Basnet lamented how some media were committed to destroying his personal life by ignoring his efforts to do good for the city. “I’ve been working for development of the city, but it seems some media have vowed to destroy my private life,” he said. The government’s Minimum Salary Determination Committee Chair Gangadhar Parajuli said his committee was doing all to get media houses to implement the government fixed salary.
