Says NC against revival of local bodies, House won’t be dissolved
Nepalgunj, June 2 :
Saying that objective of the pro-democracy movement can be achieved only through the House of Representatives, vice-president of the Nepali Congress (NC), Sushil Koirala, called on the people today not to doubt the intentions of the House of Representatives.
Speaking at a seminar on ‘Constituent Assembly: Issue of Social Inclusion’, organised by the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) here, Koirala said: “Time should not be
wasted in doubting intentions of each others at a time when we need to get united to seek solution”.
Stressing the need to move ahead in close cooperation with the Maoists through the Parliament, Koirala said: “Anarchy, which will raise its head if the House is dissolved, will ultimately endanger the existence of the nation.”
Saying that the House was essential for the implementation of the code of conduct, Koirala urged all concerned sectors not to indulge in futile arguments. “People will stop trusting us if we continue to indulge in arguments,” he said, adding: “The crises plaguing the nation can be resolved if the Maoists and the seven-party alliance sort their shortcomings through talks.”
Stating that all political parties are preparing for the formation of a Constituent Assembly (CA), he said “the fate of the monarchy is in peoples’ hands”. “No one will be able to differ with the decision given by the people on the matter.”
Saying that anarchy and instability will follow if the people’s decision is ignored, he urged everyone to be aware of the activities of “conspirators”.
“Through members of the Maoist talks team, Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Dina Nath Sharma, I came to know that Maoist chairman Prachanda too wanted no differences between the Maoists and the Seven-Party Alliance (SPA),” he said, adding: “Both the Maoists and the SPA are committed to 12-point agreement.”
Central member of the CPN-UML Govinda Koirala urged the SPA and the Maoists to reach to a higher point of understanding without wasting time in criticising each other.
Calling for the formation of an interim government, INSEC chairman Subodh Pyakurel said: “Security personnel and the Maoist militia, both responsible for the killings of innocent civilians, should not be forgiven at any cost.”
Coordinator of the INSEC (Nepalgunj) Bhola Mahat chaired the programme.
Central vice-chairman of the Nepal Bar Association Kumar Sharma Acharya, central member of the JMN, IP Kharel, regional bureau member of the CPN (Maoist) Narendra Jung Peter, and Bijay Gupta of the NC-D also addressed the programme.
Advocate Luman Singh BK presented a paper on ‘Constituent Assembly in Nepal: Its Structure, Process and Representation’.
Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference in Nepalgunj today, Sushil Koirala said: “The NC believes that the revival of local bodies will upset the environment for talks.”
Asked about the dissolution of the House, he said: “The House won’t be dissolved at any cost unless an interim government is formed.” “Seven parties are working for the formation of the CA,” Koirala said, adding: “There should be an early election to the CA for the resolution of crises.”
