KATHMANDU: A team of three rope-fixing Sherpas and two members of an expedition team successfully ascended Mt Ama Dablam (6,812 metres), on Saturday afternoon. The fixing team reached atop the mountain at 2:10 pm while expedition team members — Indian national Shanti Rai and Nepali national Nga Tashi Sherpa — reached the summit at 3:43 pm. The rope-fixing Sherpa team included Tenjing Sherpa, aka, Lama, Pemba Rita Sherpa and Mingma Nurbu Sherpa. The two members of the expedition team -- Rai and Sherpa -- would be following another trail soon. Likewise, the next team from Seven Summit Treks 'First Arab Ama Dablam Expedition' comprising Qatari climber Fahad Badar, Sherief Elabd from Eygpt and Nadhira Al Harthy from Oman will be attempting the summit on January 14. All three Arabian climbers had scaled Mt Everest in 2019. Fahad Badar is the first Arabi and Qatari to climb double 8000ers, Mt Everest and Mt Lhotse in Single season. Nadhira Al Harthy is the first female from Oman to climb Mt Everest and Sherief Elabd is Eygpt’s second man to climb the peak. Turkish climber Tunc Findik and Mexican Viridiana Alvarez will also follow the same schedule. Veteran Turkish climber Findik has climbed 13 of the 8000m peaks, except for Nanga Parbat, to complete all fourteen. Mexican climber Alvarez and Indian climber Rai are known to be the fastest females to climb the top three 8000m peak. Moreover, expedition leader Tashi Lakpa Sherpa holds the record as the youngest climber in the world to scale Mt Everest without using supplemental oxygen. All members will strictly follow health and safety protocols introduced by the government to stem the spread of COVID-19 before joining the expedition here, according to the Seven Summit Treks.
