MoHP appointees
KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has filled the vacant posts in its four councils and a committee. The new appointees are — Dr Shree Krishna Giri, registrar of the Nepal Medical Council; Dr Saroj Raj Onta, member-secretary of the Nepal Health Research Council; Ishwori Khanal, registrar of the Nepal Nursing Council; Laxmikant Chaulagain, registrar of the Nepal Ayurvedic Council and Dr Madhav Lamsal, managing director of the Singha Durbar Baidya Khana Development Committee. The posts were vacant for the last two months after the government scrapped the royal regime’s appointments. — HNS
TU test rescheduled
KATHMANDU: The Tribhuvan University Office of Controller of Examination on Friday announced that the re-examination of Major English third paper (Drama) of the BA Second Year would be held on July 30. Examination of the paper, which was held as per schedule on Thursday, was scrapped because it contained out-of-the-course questions. Irate students had boycotted the examination and vandalised the OCE Office at Balkhu to protest against the carelessness on the authority’s part. Examination Controller Basu Ghimire said an internal investigation is going on and necessary action would be taken against those responsible. — HNS
King gets credentials
KATHMANDU: King Gyanendra received Letters of Credence from Ambassador-designate of the United Kingdom Dr Andrew Rotely Hall, Ambassador-designate of Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Milena Santana-Ramirez and Ambassador-designate of Finland Asko Numminen to Nepal amidst special functions held separately at the Narayanhity Royal Palace on Friday. — RSS
French National Day
KATHMANDU: As ordered by the King, the secretary to the Office of the Chief Officer of the Royal Household Ghanshyam Joshi went to the residence of the French Ambassador Michelle Jolivet at Bishalnagar on Friday and conveyed best wishes on behalf the King to Ambassador Jolivet on the occasion of the National Day of France. — RSS
Journos vindicated
KATHMANDU: The HBC FM management on Friday agreed to reappoint five journalists it sacked due to political reasons during the royal regime. The decision came a day ahead of the scheduled protest programme in front of the radio station. Earlier, on Thursday evening, the radio management and the representatives of Working Journalist Struggle Committee (WJSC) held a meeting which agreed on paper to reappoint five media persons. — HNS
Quake alert drive
Bhaktapur: Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) has launched an earthquake precaution programme in the Valley. The programme, financed by Belgium Red Cross Society, is on in Kathmandu metropolis, Lalitpur sub-metropolis and Bhaktapur, Madhyapur and Kirtipur municipalities. It is being run as a pilot project in wards selected as earthquake-prone. Ward-level quake risk management panels have been set up. — RSS
