Hetauda, July 23 :
Drivers today disrupted the Hetauda-Nawalpur section of the Mahendra Highway to protest against the misbehaviour of a traffic policeman.
The Transport workers’ Union and the police were preparing to hold talks in the evening to sort out the problems and resume traffic, which remained disrupted since 07:00 am.
Vehicles were lined up from Hetauda bazaar to Basamadi VDC. A dispute arose after traffic Assistant Sub-Inspector Chiranjibi Sharma tore apart a driving license belonging to a driver Ramesh Neupane during a regular examination of licenses.
Bus driver Neupane said, “ASI Sharma asked for Rs 100 as bribe but I said I would give Rs 200 if he would give a receipt for the sum. The ASI got furious and tore apart the license.”
The drivers have protested against the
ASI’s misconduct and the charging of Rs 10 for entry of vehicles in Hetauda, Pathlaiya.
