KATHMANDU, JUNE 3
Tribhuvan University (TU) has recovered more than Rs 140 million from teachers accused of misusing study leave and failing to return to service after completing their studies.
According to TU, 41 teachers have so far deposited over Rs 140.65 million into the University Pension Fund following increased pressure from the government and university authorities.
A probe committee coordinator, Dr Jeewan Kafle, said 41 out of 191 teachers who had taken long study leave have returned the amount, while 62 others have applied to settle dues.
The university has intensified recovery efforts after concerns grew over large-scale misuse of study leave provisions, which reportedly caused losses of nearly Rs 2 billion in public funds.
Under TU regulations, teachers and employees can take study leave for up to five years on the condition that they either return to service or repay the required amount if they fail to resume duty.
