KATHMANDU, JUNE 6

The high-level committee formed to investigate allegations against former Home Minister and RSP lawmaker Sudan Gurung has submitted its report to Prime Minister Balendra Shah.

The committee, headed by former High Court judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, handed over the 45-page report on Friday following an investigation into questions surrounding Gurung's share investments, assets and sources of income.

The report contains factual analysis, findings and recommendations for government action. Statements, supporting documents and other evidence were also submitted separately.

According to reports, the investigation reportedly found no unusual discrepancies in Gurung's landholdings after comparing property details submitted to the Election Commission with later asset disclosures.

The committee also included Financial Comptroller General Shobhakanta Poudel.

The Cabinet had formed the panel in May to investigate allegations related to Gurung's assets and financial dealings. The committee was granted an additional five days to finalize the report.

Gurung resigned as home minister on April 22 after questions were raised over his financial links with Deepak Bhatta, who is currently under investigation on charges related to the source of share investments and money laundering. Gurung had maintained that his resignation was intended to avoid any conflict of interest while the investigation was underway.
