KATHMANDU, JUNE 6

The fourth edition of the Kathmandu Kalinga Literary Festival (KLF) commenced in the capital on Friday, bringing together writers, scholars, artists and cultural figures from across South Asia.

Held under the theme "Beyond Borders: South Asian Literature in a Changing World," the festival aims to promote literary exchange, cultural dialogue and regional cooperation.

Addressing the opening session, former chief justice Sushila Karki said literature is a reflection of society, human experiences and emotions, noting that her own writings have been shaped by personal observations and lived experiences.

Festival Director Ranjana Niraula said the event goes beyond books and writing, serving as a platform to celebrate shared ideas, culture, memory and mutual understanding.

According to organizers, the three-day festival features panel discussions, keynote speeches, poetry recitals, book launches, workshops, cultural performances and cross-border literary collaboration programmes.

Notable participants include Ila Arun, Pratibha Ray, Piyush Mishra, Raj Shekhar and Acharya Prashant, among other literary and cultural personalities from Nepal and the region.

Founder Director and Curator Rashmi Ranjan Parida said this year's discussions will explore literature, identity, cultural transformation, inclusivity, spirituality and social change in the contemporary South Asian context.

Organizers said the festival seeks to strengthen literary, cultural and civilizational ties among Nepal, India and other South Asian nations. The Kathmandu edition of the Kalinga Literary Festival has been held annually since 2022.
