KATHMANDU, APRIL 9
Former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has been released on bail after 13 days in custody, in line with a directive from the Supreme Court of Nepal.
Lekhak was freed on Thursday morning from Police Battalion No. 2 and handed over to his wife, Yashoda Lekhak, according to Kathmandu District Police Range.
Police said he has been released on the condition that he will appear before authorities whenever required during the ongoing investigation.
Lekhak had been in custody since March 27 after being arrested from Bhaktapur in connection with a probe into incidents that occurred on September 8-9. The arrest followed the government's decision to implement recommendations made by a commission led by Gauri Bahadur Karki.
The release follows a Supreme Court order instructing authorities not to extend the detention period further and to release the detainees on bail if investigations were not completed within the stipulated time.
Former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was also detained in connection with the same case, has similarly been released and handed over to his family.
