Kathmandu, July 25:
Private organisations providing door-to-door garbage collection service today dumped the collected waste at the Khulamanch after the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) failed to solve the problem at the Teku Transfer Station.
President of the Environment Conservation Initiative, Dhruba Acharya, said they were compelled to dump the waste after the Teku Transfer Station was chock-a-block.
Acharya said more than 50 private organisations are working to manage about 31 per cent of the total garbage of the Valley. The NGO Federation For Environment Conservation (NGPFEC) and the Solid Waste Management Association represent the 50 private organisations.
Both the federation and the association had submitted a memorandum to the chief executive officer of KMC today at around 11 am. They begun to dump the garbage at around 2 pm as the KMC could not come up with any solution.
