Minister for agriculture and cooperatives Mahesh Acharya has said that the government had presented the 20-year agricultural perspective plan for proper development of the agricultural sector, improvement in the agricultural system, raising agricultural output, reducing poverty and improving the living standard of the farmers.

Minister Acharya was inaugurating a daylong free livestock health camp organised by the district livestock services office, Morang at the compound of the Devi High School of Tetariya VDC today.

Stating that unless and until the health of the livestock was good, the production of meat and milk products would not be able to meet the local demand, minister Acharya gave directives to the concerned employees to work in tandem with the farmers to keep the livestock healthy.

Medical treatment were provided to and surgical operations performed on 2,000 cows, oxen, buffaloes and other livestock by 13 veterinary doctors and 45 technicians at the daylong free health camp.

Infertility treatment was also provided and necessary drugs were distributed free of cost at the camp, it is learnt from chief of Morang district animal husbandry office Dr Yogendra Prasad Yadav.

The programme was presided over by local social worker Fakir Lal Das. Also today, minister for agriculture and cooperatives Acharya made an on the spot inspection of the Nepal Agriculture Research Council, Regional Agricultural Research Centre (NARC), Tarahara, the Giriraj poultry, vegetable farming at Banigama Village Development Committee and pig raising project.

On the occasion, the concerned farmers narrated their experiences while NARC director general Raghunath Sapkota and director of the Regional Agriculture Research Centre Chitaranjan Yadav apprised him of the prevailing situation in the district.
