General Secretary of Nepal Basketball Association (NBA) Sita Pandey has been elected the executive committee member for 2002-2006 term of the Asian Basketball Federation (ABF). The election was held in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia on May 4. According to a press release issued here by the NBA on Tuesday, Pandey was also elected the deputy general secretary of Middle Asia Zone of the ABF. The election of Middle Asia Zone was held on May 3.
Of the five sub-zones of Aisa, Nepal is in Middle Zone with India, Pakistan Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Maldives, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tazakistan and Afghanistan.
Dr Carl Chiang Men-Ky of Hong Kong was elected the president of the 44-member ABF in the election held on May 4, while Dato Yeoh Choo Hock of Malaysia was elected the general secretary.
Similarly, Alisher Nikimber of Uzbekistan was elected the president of the Middle Asia sub-zone in a election held on May 3, while Harish Sharma of India and Sita Pandey were elected the deputy general secretary.
The conference and election were held in the presence of Federation of International Basketball Associations (FIBA) deputy general secretary Patrick Buhumen along with other 165 members.
The newly elected general secretary of ABF Yeoh Choo Hock handing over the basketball equipment worth about Rs 75,000 to Sita Pandey assured to continue the help in the days to come.
