Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) Ltd saw for the sixth consecutive week an upsurge in the index. The NEPSE index went up by a massive figure of 9.69 during this week. While the Index was 230.77 at the beginning of the week, it escalated to 240.46 on Friday.

Despite the feeling of insecurity prevalent among the business circle, a good number of transactions has been recorded as in the past five weeks. This week, out of the 49 registered companies, only 32 made their transactions.

In total, 1,079 shares comprising of 67,153 share units were transacted. Last week, these figures were 735 and 39,456 respectively. The total amount transacted this week was Rs 27,861,159 as compared to Rs 14,562,008 last week.

Groupwise, the NEPSE index for commercial banks increased from 224.59 on Monday to 239.52 on Friday. Similarly, hotels saw a rise from 217.18 to 217.57, financial group from 265.87 to 267.09 and development-bank group from 294.09 to 298.42. The manufacturing, trading, and other sectors retained their indices of 285.66, 102.91, and 106.19 respectively.

The only group to face a decline was insurers whose index tumbled by a meagre figure of 0.08 from 263.92 to 263.84 during the 5-day week.

The information given by Nepal Stock Exchange reveals that, the commercial bank group scored 88.07 per cent of the total transactions; whereas hotel group saw a transaction of 1.12 per cent of the total on groupwise basis.

Similarly, financial group captured 6.28 per cent, insurance group 1.86 per cent, and development bank group 2.67 per cent of the total transactions. Meanwhile, manufacturing, trading and other groups saw no transaction during the week.

Nepal Bangladesh Bank was the one to see maximum number of share transaction with 193 transactions but Bank of Kathmandu dominated the race in terms of number of share units and total transacted amount. A total of 18,609 share units of the Bank of Kathmandu amounting to Rs 5,671,390 were transacted this week.

This week the floor of the Nepal Stock Exchange was open for all the five days starting from Monday. The companies whose shares were transacted throughout the week are Nepal Bank Ltd, Nepal Arab Bank Ltd, Nepal Indosuez Bank, Nepal Standard Chartered Bank Ltd, Nepal SBI Bank Ltd, Nepal Bangladesh Bank Ltd, Everest Bank Ltd, Bank of Kathmandu Ltd, Nepal Industrial and Commercial bank, Himalayan Bank Ltd, Development Bank Ltd, and Oriental Hotels Ltd.

Similarly, NIDC Capital Markets, Ace Finance Co., and Lumbini Finance and Co. Ltd saw their shares transacted for four days of the week whereas Allaince Insurance Co had transaction only one day.
