Carpet and pashmina need to retain quality

The 63rd meeting of the Carpet and Wool Development Committee (CWDC) presided by the minister of industry, commerce and supply, Purna Bahadur Khadka, discussed on the problems faced by the exporters of the carpet.

Directing the meet, minister Khadka focussed on the need of publicising and conducting promotional activities not only in the European markets which holds a higher potentiality of exportation of Nepali carpets. In addition he suggested for extending the markets in the countries like America, Canada and Japan.

Stating for the quality products, Khadka also said that Nepali carpets are considered to be of high quality and the quality should not let decrease. He further said that pashmina also had has emerged as an important exporting substance. Promotional activities should be initiated by the organisations related with woollen works to promote the export, said Khadka, who also chairs CWDC.

The meeting decided to construct a sub-committee to assess the appropriate budget and programme for solving the challenges being faced by the carpet industry.

Assistant minister of industry, commerce and supply, Prakash Bahadur Gurung suggested the entrepreneurs to keep up the quality of Nepali carpet for its steady export. Bhanu Prasad Acharya secretary at MOICS and other members of the committee were also present on the occasion.
