The Organisation for Children’s Education and Environment Development (OCEED), an organisation committed to promoting child rights and environment, celebrated its fourth anniversary here today. The OCEED secretary Hari Mohan Baral, said no child should be deprived of education because of financial constraints. “Therefore, we have scholarship programmes for underprivileged children.”

Deepak Sapkota from Central Child Welfare Committee, said, “While the work that the NGOs have done for such children is commendable, it is crucial the government set aside a certain amount of the budget for this,” he said, adding a 10-year working plan was in the making. The KMC mayor Keshav Sthapit presented a wheelchair to Nalin Chowk Youth Club to be given to a disabled member of the club later. He also gave away letters of commendation to individuals and organisations that had supported the organisation. The OCEED has been supporting 37 orphans in Kathmandu, six in Jhapa and seven in Dhangadi. It has also set up 19 youth clubs and 22 eco-clubs. “We also provide vocational training to women along with non-formal education,” said DK Shrestha.
