Bills presented in HoR :

KATHMANDU: The government on Tuesday presented some bills related with the banking laws for amendment in the House of Representatives. The bills presented for the amendment are Loan Recovery of Bank and Financial Institution Act 2058 BS, first amendment of Nepal Rastra Bank Act 2058, Amendment on Securities Transaction Act and Secured Transaction bill. — HNS

Man murdered :

KATHMANDU: An unidentified person was allegedly murdered by his friends at Jorney Man lodge at Bhotebahal, Kathmandu, on Tuesday. According to police, four persons hired a room at the lodge on Monday evening. “In the morning, three of them came out of the room and paid lodge charge. When hotel staff opened the room later, a man was found murdered,” police said. — HNS

Moriarty meets Nepal :

KATHMANDU: US envoy to Nepal James F Moriarty on Tuesday met CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Nepal. During an hour-long meeting at the UML party office, they discussed arms management measures, elections to a Constituent Assembly and the role of the party in it. “We dwelt mainly on the political situation, the ongoing peace process and shared our opinion on the best possible way to take the situation ahead,” Nepal said, adding he proposed for US support for resolving inter-related problems. — HNS

Govt spokesperson :

KATHMANDU: Minister of State for Information and Communications Dilendra Prasad Badu has been appointed as the Spokesperson for the Government of Nepal as per the decision of the Council of Ministers on Tuesday, said the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. —RSS

SWC passes budget :

KATHMANDU: The Social Welfare Council (SWC) on Tuesday passed a budget of Rs 62.5 million for the fiscal year 2006-07, it is said in a statement issued on Tuesday. — HNS

NRB guv summoned :

KATHMANDU: The High-Level Investigation Commission on Tuesday summoned governor of the Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), Bijaya Nath Bhattarai, executive director of the Nepal Rastra Bank, Govinda Bahadur Thapa, and executive director of the Nepal Tourism Board, Tek Bahadur Dangi, to present themselves at the commission on Friday and offer explanations on their alleged role in misusing funds during the King’s direct rule for the suppression of the people. — HNS
