KIRTIPUR: Dinoj Maharjan scored 11 points as Kirti Secondary School defeated Laboratory School 21-20 in the boys’ section match at the Kirtpur Cup Inter-school Basketball Tournament, which has been organised by Naya Bazar Club to mark its silver jubilee. In the other match of the same category, Mangal Secondary School beat Jana Sewa School 30-18 riding on Sunil Maharjan’s nine points. In girls’ section, Mangal Secondary School outplayed Bagh Bhairav School 9-4 with Sony Tandukar netting seven points for Mangal. — HNS
US Embassy win
KATHMANDU: American Embassy finished first in the basketball tournament organised by Nepal-Japan Friendship Celebration Council. Entertainment and Sports Journalists came second and JICA Nepal and Japanese Embassy finished joint third. Out of the five events, table tennis, lawn tennis, and badminton tournaments have already been finished. On Saturday, volleyball tournament will be held. — HNS
RIBS basketball
KATHMANDU: Man of the match Prem Gurung of Little Angels’ School scored 12 points but failed to save his team from a 33-43 loss to Shridiwa School in the senior boys’ section match at the fourth RIBS Inter-school Basketball Tournament. In the other match, Wilson registered a 43-28 win over RIBS ‘A’ with man of the match Karma Lama netting 16 points for the winners. In girls’ section, Sushma Thapa Magar netted 22 points as Alpha’s School beat RIBS 49-6. There was a good news for RIBS in junior boys’ section when the hosts defeated Daffodils 36-26 riding on Ashok Bhattarai’s 21 points. Wilson outplayed Shridiwa 36-14 in another junior boys’ section. — HNS
