Colombo, May 10:

Sri Lanka’s national carrier will operate weekly flights to the south Indian city of Calicut starting on July 1 amid increasing demand, the airline said today. SriLankan, which has been keen to boost flights to its giant neighbour, will operate four flights a week to Calicut, the carrier’s 10th destination in India. “We intend increasing the number of flights to Calicut in the near future, up to a daily frequency,” SriLanka’s head of commercial operations, G T Jeyaseelan, said in a statement, “This is in keeping with SriLankan’s policy of having daily flights to as many of its destinations as possible.” Under India’s liberalised aviation policy, Sri Lanka’s state-run carrier can now fly daily to six major Indian cities.
