Kathmandu, May 15:
The Kathmandu Metropolitan City has decided to construct 28 bus stands in the capital city in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Tripureshwore. KMC mayor Keshav Sthapit said the construction of the bus stops would start soon and is expected to be complete within a year.
The proposal was brought to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City board yesterday though a 10-year agreement had been arrived at almost two months ago. The stands will be constructed at Gaushala crossroads, Chabahil, Maharajgunj, Teaching Hospital, Lazimpat, Kantipath, Maitidevi, Ratnapark, Naya Baneshwor, Minbhawan, Tripureshwore, Teku, Kalimati, Rabi Bhawan, Tripureshwore-Kantipath, Thapathali-Airport, Balaju, Basundhara, Bus Park, Banasthali, Swayambhu, Balkhu, Bagdol, Satdobato and Gwarko.
Chief of Urban Development Department, Indra MS Suwal, said KMC will approve the design but will not bear expenses of construction. It will, however, pay the electricity charges and will waive the local taxes. The Rotary Club will bear all expenses for the construction work and also for a two-by-three feet area for a non-commercial hoarding board. Suwal added, 'The contract would be annulled if the Rotary Club fails to construct 14 bus stands within six months.'
