Kathmandu, December 7:

Two assailants murdered Sub-Inspector Kuber Bikram Karki, 34, at his house at Gothatar, Bhaktapur, early this morning.

Police said the duo climbed onto the terrace of the one-storey house before taking the stairs down to the ground floor where SI Karki was sleeping.

“They broke the door of the bedroom, brought Karki out of the room to the passage and hacked him brutally with khukuris,” Dibas Udas, Deputy Superintendent of Police at Metropolitan Police Circle, Baneshwor, said. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.

Karki, who was assigned as Personal Security Officer (PSO) of former home minister and Nepali Congress leader Khum Bahadur Khadka by the Police Headquarters, was immediately rushed to Kathmandu Medical College, Sinamangal, where he was declared dead. Karki is survived by a wife and a five-year-old daughter.

“Karki’s wife is the only one witness in the case and can tell us more about the assailants but she is so shocked to speak to anyone,” the police official said.

The modus-operandi suggests that there was no other motive than murdering Karki, police said.
