Dhankuta, December 15:

Despite the government’s directive to Village Development Committee (VDC) secretaries to return to their respective villages by tomorrow, they are still not able to go there due to the local Maoists’ threats.

VDC secretaries, who were staying in the district headquarters since the conflict began, are unable to return even as the comprehensive peace treaty has been inked.

“The Maoists have told us not to return to the villages until their party gets included in the interim government,” VDC secretaries said.

The VDC secretaries had closed their liaison offices in their respective district headquarters on December 11 as per the government’s direction to resume their work in their respective villages. It had also ordered them to form village councils and make plans for the present fiscal year by December 30.
