Plaint against 2 cops

KATHMANDU: Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Metropolitan Police Traffic Division, Saurav Rana, Deputy Superintendent of Police at the Metropolitan Police Traffic Division, and Birendra Thapa, inspector at the Metropolitan Police Crime Division, are under investigation for allegedly thrashing Rajesh Rao and Ratna Shahi, owners of the Thamel-based Labha Club on Tuesday night, a police source said, adding four other police officials were accompanying Rana and Thapa. The source said owners of the club first prevented the two police officials from entering the club. “However, the club owners let them in when the two introduced themselves as police officials. The officials then allegedly beat the club owners for their inability to identify them as police officials,” the source said. A police team from the Metropolitan Police Section, Durbarmarg, reached the spot and brought club-owners to the police station for interrogation. SP Dhak Bahadur Karki said, “We are probing the case. The police officials will be punished if found guilty.” — HNS
