Mahottari, January 9:

A youth working at the barrier set up at Maisthan-6 along Mahendra Highway was killed when a minibus headed towards east hit a barrier today.

Manoj Yadav, 25 of Hariyarour-2, Dhanusha, was hit by the bus when he was trying to pull the barrier up, locals said. He died en route to Janakpur for treatment. The barrier was set up by local youths who illegally collected donations from Indian tourist buses passing through Maisthan, locals said. Around 12 youths, who were in a truck, pelted stones at two passenger buses following them from Lalgadh till Ratopul, the District Police Office Mahottari, said. The windscreens and windowpanes of the buses were shattered, police said. Around 14 passengers were also injured in the incident, police said. Mahendranagar Area Police Office has taken the truck in control while the driver of the truck and the youths absconded.
