KATHMANDU, MARCH 15

Health authorities have intensified response measures following a measles outbreak in Dhorpatan Municipality of Baglung district, with confirmed cases reported in the area.

According to the National Immunization Programme under the Child Health and Immunization Service Section of the Family Welfare Division, a total of 104 suspected cases have been identified so far.

Health officials said 21 samples have been sent for laboratory testing, of which seven cases have been confirmed as measles by the National Public Health Laboratory (NPHL).

Patients are currently being treated at Burtibang Hospital and Bobang Health Post. While some patients have recovered and returned home, others are still undergoing treatment, health authorities said.

Meanwhile, health workers have stepped up containment efforts in the affected communities. Response activities include active case search in local communities, risk communication and public health awareness campaigns, as well as monitoring and treatment of infected patients.

Authorities have also launched a special measles vaccination campaign targeting children and adolescents aged 10 to 19 years in the municipality to prevent further spread of the disease.

Health officials said the campaign aims to quickly contain the outbreak by increasing immunization coverage among the vulnerable age group.
