KATHMANDU: ‘Children in Shadows’ — a festival of films dealing with the lives of children in adverse conditions like in brothels, working as militia, working in mines, is on. Organised by Terre des hommes Youth Advisory Committee in Nepal, it began on January 13. The movies, focussing on children who face challenges on a day-to-day basis and how they survive, are being screened in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bandipur.

On January 17, Ujeli a Nepali movie on child marriage is being scree-ned at Bandipur Square at 6:00 pm. Directed by Deependra Gauchan, it revolves around Ujeli, a10-year-old girl, who is forced to marry at an early age. She is deprived of education and childhood instead she is expected to act as a married adult woman. The movie also depicts social evils of Nepal like gender discrimination and maternal mortality rate.
