KATHMANDU: It was not a White Christmas but a White Valentine’s Day that Kathmanduites celebrated this year. On February 14 Kathmandu experienced snowfall at various places. The snowfall that occurred at 1:30 pm took the Valley residents by surprise. This was the first snowfall in the Valley after 62 years. Senior meterologist stationed at the Tribhuvan International Airport Krishna Bhakta Manandhar said, “The Capital experienced a snowfall after 62 years. The Capital had been covered under one foot of snow in the year 1945.”
The temperature had dipped to three degrees centigrade, however it was not cold enough for the snow to accumulate. The snow kept falling for another 45 minutes or so.
