Maoist bomber gives up

KATHMANDU: A Maoist cadre involved in bombing a vehicle of the Annapurna Post on May 27 has surrendered to the security forces, the Directorate of Public Relations of the Royal Nepalese Army said. The cadre said he was a member of the 10-member special task force team that came from Palpa to carry out the mission. The explosion had claimed the life of the vehicle driver, Kanya Ras Gurung. — HNS

Property looted

URLABARI: A gang claiming itself to be Maoists has robbed property worth Rs 47,000 from a house at Jante VDC of Morang. The armed gang of ten robbed Rs 15,000 cash and gold jewellery from the house of Manmaya Limbu and Rs 6,000 cash from another house. — RSS

Maoists release two

POKHARA: Maoists have released Rameshwar Gurung and Teelman Gurung whom they had abducted on May 10 from Ghandruk. They were handed over to a teacher in presence of Journalists, it is learnt. — RSS

Anti-measles campaign

BIRATNAGAR: An effective crusade against measles is to be launched in Morang to save the children from untimely death. Three hundred employees will be assigned for the campaign to be conducted with the cooperation of the World Food Programme and the UNICEF, said chief of the district public health office, Bhogendra Raj Dotel. About 350,000 kids below 15 years of age in the district will be vaccinated against measles. — RSS

No Tobacco Day marked

BHARATPUR: Participants at an interaction organised at BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital here on Monday on the occasion of the World No Tobacco Day pointed out the fact that smoking has affected poor people more than the rich and they spent a part of their earning on smoking. Presenting a working paper at the programme, chief of the public health office, Chitwan, Chandradev Mehata said that 3.9 million die of smoking in the world every year. — RSS

Hospital office opens

DULEGAUDA: Senior doctor Kumar Shumsher Rana inaugurated the Seti Ganga Community Hospital office at Dulegaunda VDC, in Tanahun, on Monday. He said the hospital should provide the services at a reasonable rate to the people of rural area. A 50 bed hospital will be constructed. — RSS

Road project to resume

GORKHA: Rural Development Programme Nepal under the GTZ and Gorkha DDC signed an agreement on Monday to resume the construction works of Benighat-Arkhet road. The construction of the 'Harit Sadak (Green Road)', started in May 1996, was discontinued from July 2000. It will cost Rs 29,2 million for the construction of Dhabadi - Darbung portion and Fujel - Borlang portion of the road, it is learnt. — RSS

DANG: Users Federation, Ghorahi branch, organised an exhibition concerning conservation of forest and environment from Monday to mark the World Environment Day.
