Kathmandu, June 5:

Entrepreneurs have urged the government to take necessary steps to prevent the possible scarcity of daily consumer goods during the rainy season. The inevitable transportation problem along the highway during the rainy season connecting the capital, leads to a crisis in goods of daily consumtion.

Participants at an interaction organised by the Federation of Neplese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) pointed out the need for the government to be active in minimising the problem. The government needs to maintain the Mugling–Kathmandu sector of the road and the Tribhvan highway, which are the main links to the valley. A taskforce should be formed to increase the storage of goods for daily consumtion and to keep a record of imported commodities to Kathmandu, participants suggested.

'The government has already started its work. We are identifying goods that tend to run short and are working for the storage and transportation of such goods so that no unwanted situation arises,' said Dinesh Chandra Pyakurel, secretary at the ministry of industry, commerce and supply. Binod Bahadur Shrestha, president of FNCCI, said that the government should take in account the data of goods consumed in the capital and should work accordingly.
