Mahottari clash leaves 6 hurt

Mahottari, May 2:

Six persons were injured when activists of the eight political parties and locals clashed today over the construction of two wells to supply water to Pashupatinagar VDC in Mahottarai district.

The dispute arose as the consumers’ committee headed by a local, Surya Narayan Mahato, and another committee formed by the eight parties claimed to take responsibility for the construction of the wells proposed by the District Development Committee at the cost of Rs 1.6 million.

Janamorcha Mahottari secretary Bidur Karki, CPN-UML district member Bhim Bahadur Ale and Maoists’ Bishnu Dev Mahato were injured when a group led by Surya Narayan Mahato attacked them.

Karki said that the group fatally attacked them at gun point. Three of the attackers were also injured in retaliation. The injured were treated at a local health post. The District Police Office said it has not received any information about the incident.
