Kathmandu, May 8:

Pro-Maoist Newar National Liberation Front (NNLF) today condemned the comments of Education Minister Pradeep Nepal and sought clarification on the policy of the CPN-UML on ethnic and lingual policy.

The minister had recently said it was not possible to impart higher education in mother tongue.

A meeting of the NNLF held here yesterday had decided to condemn Nepal’s remark, claiming that it was an insult to the languages of the indigenous nationalities of the nation. According to Pawan Man Shrestha, the NNLF general secretary, the meeting has also decided to begin Newa Autonomous Campaign from tomorrow.

The meeting also decided to hand over a memorandum with its demands to the Prime Minister and begin a struggle if they are ignored. The front has also decided to hold a seminar on Mother Languages on Federal Democratic Republic on May 12 and to establish a Newa Museum and Academy.

“Newa Public Hearings and corner meetings would be organised at different parts of the cities,” he said, adding that the front has decided to clean up the rivers of the valley, including Bagmati.
