Holi is being celebrated with enthusiasm across the Tarai districts today, a day after it was observed in the mountainous and hilly regions.

The festival is being marked in Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta Purba), Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta Paschim), Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Siraha, Udayapur, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara, Parsa, Rupandehi, Kapilbastu, Dang, Banke, Bardiya, Kailali and Kanchanpur, among others. The government has declared a public holiday in the Tarai districts on the occasion.

Celebrated annually on the full moon day of Fagun in the lunar calendar, Holi symbolises the arrival of spring and the victory of truth over falsehood. The festival is observed by smearing colours and splashing coloured water, with people gathering in public spaces to sing and dance, spreading messages of harmony and goodwill.

Observed under different names across the mountains, hills and Tarai-Madhes, Holi remains a vibrant expression of Nepal's cultural diversity and social unity.
